A Study on How Chinese International Students Deal with Acculturative Stress in Their First Year of St udy in Canada Ever since the late 70s, the administration of China actualized an approach that planned for encouraging studentsââ¬â¢ learning of cutting edge western innovation by concentrating in western colleges and schools. Today, insights demonstrate that China is the greatest exporter of understudies on the planet as indicated by Gu (2013). ... The general pattern toward the inclination to concentrate abroad among Chinese understudies is driven by the conviction that training outside the visitors of China is increasingly efficient and complete, and that the experience is better than they in any case would get in China. Different understudies are propelled by the way that they don't need to sit for and finish college section tests when they select to seek after training in remote instructive establishments (Anonymous, 2013). Death And Gothic Romanticism In The Cask Of Amontillado - Free Essay Example
The Cask of Amontillado is a short literary work wrote in 1846. From the same author that brought us The Fall of the House of Usher, Edgar Allan Poe. This short story also has a Gothic nature. Edgar Allan Poe, was born in the early eighteen-hundreds. His accomplishments as a poet and author are wide and numerous. He is highly regarded as a central attributed to the American romanticism period. Since Poe was born in 1809, he had the perfect stage to become a Romantic period figure, as Romanticism was at its height from 1800-1850 after having originated in Europe and moving to the young United States. The Romantic period of literature was solidified by an emphasis on strong emotions with a connection to nature. Romanticism examined all parts of nature, including death. Thus, came the motivation for the below analysis of The Cask of Amontilado. Many historians agree that the potential shift toward romanticism was a direct result of the industrial revolution in which many felt we were straying away from traditional values of working land with our hands. Whatever the cause, it is no doubt Edgar Allan Poe became a truly predominant American figure. His works of literature are still extremely well respected to this date. The story, in summary, is a story about revenge and death. Even the title of the work foreshadows the dark events that will unfold. In archaic form, a cask equates to a modern day casket, or resting place. Therefore, the reader immediately knows death is a part of the story. In the introduction of the story, the narrator discovers a character, Fortunato (Fortunato translates to English as fourtainte, this literary irony truly adds to the story), has been insulting him. The narrator preys on Fortunators weakness to consume alcohol (wine). The narrator lures Fortunato into a wine cellar, which also doubles as a catacomb (In ancient Europe it was common for wine cellars to also contain crypts for family members dating back centuries in the same home.). It is important to again note that the character, Fortunato, has a name which translates to lucky or fortunate. Nothing about his experience with the narrator will become fortunate or lucky, again creating a sense of irony. The Cask of Amontilado has several aspects of irony, all of which strongly support the penultimate progression of the story; the authorrs use of irony strongly supports the storyrs theme and plot development. (It is my personal belief that Fortunatos craving for alcohol represents mans addiction to unworldly things, just as the cellar symbolizes a form of purgatory.) Additionally, the way in which the two main characters are dressed gives the reader a prediction on what is to come. The narrator is dressed in dark clothing, which symbolizes death. Fortunato, ironically, is dressed as a clown, in bright colors. This is possibly the most ironic point in the story. This shows the reader that he is completely unaware of the events that are about to unfold, eventually resulting in his death. Fortunato had been attending a carnival, which accounts for his bright clothing. The light mood Fortunato carried with him into the cellar serves as a further indication of his unawareness of the coming events. Perhaps Fortunato is unaware the narrator knows he has been talking bad about him, which is the whole premise for his revenge. The story also has several ironic quotes, not just ronic actions or instances. One important quote occurs when Fortunato begins to cough: Enough, he said; the cough is a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough. Trueâ⬠true, The narrator knows very well why Fortunato is coughing. The cause of his respiratory distress is from sulfur deposits within the cellar. That combined with the poor circulation of air is causing his breathing problems. Instead of heeding the warning from his coughing, Fortunato agrees that a sip of wine that will soothe his throat. Ironically yet again, that which he craves to be a connoisseur of so badly will end his life. Fortunato lays claim that he is an expert in good tasting wine, a claim that will ultimately aid in his death. This too serves as a foreshadowing detail of what is about to unfold. The reader knows the intentions the narrator has planned for Fortunato, death. He shall indeed die of a cough. One additional ironic quote occurs as they enter the cellar. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation. The narrator identifies to us very plainly his plans to immolate Fortunato. Obviously the narrator has a charming appeal to him. Who else could connive face to face with someone, only to kill them seconds later. Still, as Fortunato begins to struggle to breath, due to the sulfur, he remains oblivious to his fate just a few mere moments away. He now sits in an intoxicated state, struggling to breath, still clearly unaware of his fate to be. In conclusion, this story is another classical work by Edgar Allan Poe, and reflects his ongoing theme of death and Gothic romanticism. Poe displayed his ability to master all types of literary irony within this particular work; Edgar Allen Poe is an expert at the literary use of irony to convey the plot throughout the majority of his stories. The several aforementioned accounts of irony serve as a way to convey Poers theme of death and revenge. Had the story not used this literary element/tool, it would have not been as effective in conveying its overall theme and message. The use of irony truly does progress the story. It is therefore, due the culmination of his expert literary approach, his use of irony, word choice, and other literary elements, we are left with a story that truly conveys artistic ability. Furthermore, this story truly does reflect the sentiments of the Romantic literature period.

Essay An Analysis of Ethical Dilemma of International...
Adoption boundaries have steadily extended since the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War, where many children became orphans. As a response to them winners, especially Americans, started to adopt children from the war-torn countries (Wilkinson 1995, 174). Thus, it was a start point for international adoption. Intercountry (international or transnational) adoption is defined as adoption, where child is removed to the adopteesââ¬â¢ country. In recent times motives to adopt internationally are explained as charity of wealthier and more developed nations, a wish to help countries, which are fighting with economic problems, and also insufficient numbers of babies within the country. The rate of international adoption increased dramatically,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In past years a rate of international adoption increased by approximately 16% from 1998 to 2007 (Selman 2009, 576). Figure 1 shows the rate of international adoption increased dramatically from approximately 32000 to 45000 children in 1998- 2004 years; then it has started to decrease. Such big numbers in the rate of international adoption and popularity of it raises more and more positive and negative concerns. The whole society started to pay more attention to it, asking questions and raising ethical dilemma of international adoption. The importance of this topic is significant, since children should be considered as the most precious parts of every nation. Countryââ¬â¢s well-being includes not only economic stability and military force, but childrenââ¬â¢s happiness as well. Especially the future and happiness of abandoned children depends on international adoption. Accordingly, taking into account rate of intercountry adoption and its current problems the topic is relevant nowadays. Figure 1: Trends in intercountry adoptions to 23 receiving countries; top five receiving countries; USA and Europe, 1998ââ¬â2007 (Selman 2009, 578) The first argument against international adoption is that it is a way to traffic children. Defining the Concept of Personality - 3074 Words
According to Wrosch and Scheier (2003), there is no absolute or generally agreed upon definition of personality. They claim that personality has as many definitions as there are personality theorists and researchers. Personality can be of psychological importance when traits defining such personality provide information as to what a person is really like according to Williams, Saiz, FormyDuval, Munick, Fogle, Adom, Ahams, Neto, and Jiayuan (1995). They state that some traits are more diagnostic in essence as they provide information concerning an individualââ¬â¢s psychological makeup. A generality of such traits, therefore, can be used to understand and predict behavior. Literature about personality implies that it is necessary to prove or disprove its existence, stability, consistency, and generality and yet the ability to utilize such information as it pertains to our everyday lives would be of more value (Phares Lamiell, 1977; Wrosch Scheier, 2003). They claim that studi es focused on such values could provide information about what a person does, thinks, or experiences as well as convey a sense that the cause of whatever it is that the person is doing (or thinking or feeling) is originating from within. The understanding of personality has evolved over the years as numerous researchers have added their thoughts and findings to create the depth of knowledge that can be found today (Schneider, 2007). It can reveal, to some extent, the personality of one. This is because it allows you to express yourself. The style of an individual is chosen solely by them, and should therefore represent their taste. For instance, bold or bright colours may give off the impression that someone is outgoing or confident. Fashion is a part of everyoneââ¬â¢s identity, it is one of the first things someone may notice when they meet you. Dressing in a way in which reflects the image one would like to portray to others is key. Application How is the performing arts applied to the larger world? Performing arts are art forms such as dance, drama, or music that are performed in front of an audience. It is the people of society who take part in these activities and make them possible for others to view and enjoy. The performing arts can convey many different messages to its audience. Sometimes this can be an inspirational experience, and compel people to begin taking part in the arts. Being a part of the performing arts often poses as a way for one to express themself. It can also be a way for others to stay out of trouble and keep their priorities straight, this can help with keeping more successful economies. The performing arts is also a display of the culture(s) of a community, because performances often include beliefs and issues common in a society. Acts that are successful become well-known across a country, or even the world and may influence the people of other cultures. How could we use media to overcome world issues? Media can be used to spread important information to whichever audience desired. The many different forms help to reach a wide range of people. Media is a big first step to the beginning of overcoming world issues. Perspective What are different points of view about name brands/ designers? There are a few different point of views towards name brands and designers. For the most part, you can only love them, feel neutral about them, not know about them, or despise them. Those who love name brands and designers may like the products sold, or be interested in impressing others. People who see name brands or designer items just the same as they see no name products can be classified as feeling neutral about them. These people most likely purchase items they like, regardless of the existence or non-existence of a brand. Those who donââ¬â¢t know about brands or designers may own these products without knowledge. It is most likely that these people purchase products that are priced reasonably, without considering the label. If a brand or designer product is on sale, this is most likely when the item was purchased. Despising brands or labels is a point of view that is likely to be taken upon by those who think overpriced items are ridiculous. It is expected that these people are somewhat informed of the different brands names and designers, but do not own anything from them. What are the limits of mass media? Mass media is media that is intended for and reaches a large audience. There are some limits of mass media, one of which is that it takes over most types of media. You may hear the same message or song many times, because it is intended to reach a large audience. This can sometimes be annoying and ruin the essence of the material commercialized. Another limit is that mass media wants everything to be similar or follow the criteria for ââ¬Å"whatââ¬â¢s hotâ⬠, this limits variety in our society. Mass media also ââ¬Å"dumbs downâ⬠older movies, plays, and other media that was big back then. This ruins the experience of the original media that was altered for the standards of todayââ¬â¢s mass media. Empathy What would it be like to walk in Michael Jacksonââ¬â¢s shoes? While Michael Jackson was alive, he lived through many spectacular as well as dishonoring moments that were exploited by the media. Michael Jackson was an inspiration to many, as he was an amazing singer and the creator of a few signature dance moves, such as the ââ¬Å"Moon Walkâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Crotch Popâ⬠. It would have been a wonderful feeling for Michael Jackson to know he inspired so many people to do what he loved doing most. He was a father who loved his children; this must have been a great accomplishment and value in his life. There was, however, the media and fans or haters of Michael Jackson who misunderstood some of his actions or made assumptions about things he did or didnââ¬â¢t do. Being as famous as Michael Jackson, and feeling like a lot of people who once supported you are now disappointed and unhappy with you, must have been a horrible feeling. Trying to live his own life as well as continue his career would have been a stressful experience. How might we reach an understanding about celebritiesââ¬â¢ lives? Reaching an understanding about celebritiesââ¬â¢ lives may be a difficult thing, because the media portrays of them what they wish and celebrities only show what they wish. To reach an understanding, you would need to consider the lyrics of their songs, the way they dress, how often they are included in the media, etc. Considering these factors would help build a vague understanding of what the celebrity is going through in life. If you read a lot about a specific celebrity, in magazines or possibly an autobiography, it may be helpful in concluding an understanding. Self-Knowledge What are the limits of my knowledge about music? The limits of my knowledge about music start with the styles of music I donââ¬â¢t listen to. Music I listen to most often includes hip hop, RB, pop, and rap. I listen to country, oldies, alternative, contemporary, etcetera less often. Styles I donââ¬â¢t listen to at all include heavy metal, screamo, and classical. Styles I donââ¬â¢t listen to at all or less often create a limit to my knowledge of music. Another factor to my limits on knowledge about music is the fact that I mostly listen to music only on the radio or on YouTube. The radio plays mainstream songs most often, while YouTube requires you to search for a song or click on a related video which would mean you already knew about that artist. What are my strengths and weaknesses in dance? I started dancing when I was 13 years old, so my main weakness is technique in jazz and ballet. That consists of well pointed toes, stretched legs and knees in the air, and turnout in your legs and feet. Something I am alright at is my flexibility. I have good flexibility, but not extraordinary like a contortionist. My main strength is in hip hop dance, itââ¬â¢s the style of dance that I first started out with and have the biggest passion for. When I dance hip hop, I hit my accents hard and put a lot of energy into my movements. These are my strengths and weaknesses in dance.

(P): nurses experiencing incivility in the workplace. (I): increase education and sensitivity training. (C): have harsher punishments for incivility. (O): less incivility and bullying in the workplace amongst health care professionals. B. Levels of Evidence Incivility is defined as rude or impolite attitude or behavior by Webster's online dictionary. (Webster's, 2016) It has been recorded that new nurses quit within the first six months of working due to incivility and bullying by other nurses. This is a problem that can be, I believe, resolved or decreased by giving the healthcare professionals strategies for stress reduction, sensitivity counseling through workshops, and to work harder towards identifying and eliminating such behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to interpret the quantitative and qualitative articles identified to see whether they are or are not important to our group topic. The paper will compare and contrast the main components of the matrix table. C. Search Strategy While conducting research for this topic, correct terminology is important. Some search terms I used were "incivility", "qualitative", and "workplace bullying". These helped to narrow down my search from articles relating to this topic. The search engines I used were E BSCO and google scholar. The two articles I chose were " The nursing incivility scale: Development and validation of an occupation-specific measure " by AM Guidroz and JL Burnfield-Geimer and " Incivility and bullying in the workplace and nurses' shame responses " by DM Felblinger . I chose t hese two articles because they are credible and relevant to the PICOT question. Because these articles were written by medical professionals they are found to be reliable sources. They were also deemed credible, too, because statistics relating to nursing incivility were stated throughout. References to the ANA and The Joint Commission showed that intensive research was complete d when writing these two articles. I believe that these articles will be useful for this topic now and for any additional information needed in the future. D. Conclusion No one wants to work in a place where they feel uncomfortable or feel like they are being bullied. Being uncivil at work not only hinders necessary communication amongst nurses and staff, but also hinders adequate patient care. It is important to put aside any animosity for fellow co-workers so that quality care to the patients is provided. At the end of the day, we are there to care for and heal the patient. The more knowledge we can gain through increased education , the better we can prevent this from occurring. References: ANA. 2016.
